The Ministry of Public Health joins IGI Cameroon to launch Mobile App and Web-based Application to Suppress Corruption and Build Moral Integrity in Public Service in Cameroon

In sensitive areas like the health sector, corruption widens inequalities and spread poverty. Poverty invites conflict and disregards principles and values, especially in sensitive areas like the health sector. In consonant with our goal to promote Pillars 4 and 6 of the National Development Strategy of Cameroon NDS 2020-2030, the International Governance Institute is supporting capacity-strengthening actions and the development of critical tools to suppress corruption, foster development and reduce state fragility in conflict areas like the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.

Following last year’s 2022 progress with the strengthening of integrity systems at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, (MINADER) South West Region IGI is stepping up its support to respond to the Government’s appeal to strengthen health system integrity and ethics in the health sector by supporting a 4 days’ workshop to build capacity and improve health sector ethics and anti-corruption practice for the Ministry of Public Health Regional Delegation of the South West.

This time IGI Cameroon is also introducing a mobile phone technology-based application for ordinary citizens to report corruption incidents and obtain redress with the institutions concerned. IGI’s BIPROMAP -Public Integrity Action Application- is an integrity-building citizen service product aimed at ensuring that the range of public services that ordinary citizens and communities receive are genuinely meeting their needs and provided in a manner that is fair, free of fraud and corruption, and respects the constitutional right of all Cameroonians to moral integrity and humane treatment in all circumstances.

The software plays host to a database of corruption incidence that occurs across the public-private sector in Cameroon. It operates by downloading the App-BIPROMAP on a mobile device from Google Play store and follow the instructions provided to report an incident of corruption while also attaching evidence-based images, location, name, gender, and public service organization to which the perpetrator is assigned. Once the report is received it is processed and followed up with the relevant authorities for redress and where possible legal prosecution as provided by the laws in force.
